The Daily Five: Financial Concerns, Ferry Launch Party, and Don't Be Anyone's Fool!

Five things to know for East Lyme, Old Lyme, and Lyme on Monday, April 1, 2013

 

1. We're back in 50s as we plow further into spring. Weather.com is predicting a high of 56 degrees, with a few clouds and a 30 percent chance for rain showers this afternoon. Tonight will be mostly clear with a low temperature of 31 degrees. Happy April Fools Day!

2. Old Lyme Board of Selectmen will meet earlier that usual today, at 4 p.m. rather than 7:30 p.m. at Old Lyme Town Hall. Here's what's on the agenda.

3. A quick reminder: Old Lyme has scheduled a Special Town Meeting for April 9, where voters will be asked to approve $185,000 for a feasibility study for a community septic system and to approve $27,300 for Kiosks and Parking configuration on Hartford Avenue at Sound View.

4. There's a School District Region 18 budget hearing scheduled for tonight at the Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. The regular board of education meeting is scheduled for April 3.

East Lyme's Board of Finance will also meet at 6:30 p.m. to review the proposed budgets for the Registrars of Voters, the Smith Harris House, the Board of Finance, the Contingency Funds, and General Government and Miscellaneous budget items. The meeting will be held this evening at East Lyme Town Hall. 

Last but not least, the Lyme Board of Finance will meet today at Lyme Town Hall as part of its continuing budget hearings. 

5. Today is opening day for the ferry and Hadyme's Ferry Committee has partnered with the crew to have a Ferry Opening Day Awareness Party at 5 p.m. The community get-together begins on the Hadlyme side at about 4:45 p.m. Hot chocolate, plates and napkins will be provided but bring a snack to share if you can. No alcohol, please.
