The Daily Five: Frost And Pollen, Big Budget Meetings, Return of the Doughboy, and Things That Go Boom
Five things to know for East Lyme, Old Lyme, and Lyme on Monday, April 22, 2013.

1. Expect a mix of clouds and sun today with a high temperature of 54 degrees and an overnight low of 40 degrees, according to weather.com. There's a 10 percent chance of rain during the day and a 20 percent chance of rain this evening.
2. You know it's spring when there's both a frost advisory and a pollen alert. For the second day in a row, the National Weather Service has issued a frost advisory for our area. Today's began at midnight and runs through 6 a.m. There's also a high pollen alert so if you find yourself feeling stuffy or sneezing, it's mostly likely allergies and not a late season cold.
3. A loud boom was heard and felt in East Lyme, Old Lyme, Lyme and Hadlyme on Friday night at about 10 p.m. It was loud enough to prompt a number of people who felt it farther south to call Madison Police Department. Theories about the source of the sound range from thunder (thunderstorms were forecast that night) to sonic booms from mystery aircraft.
Most intriguing, and perhaps most likely, was that it was the so-called "Moodus Noises." The name Moodus is actually derived from an Indian name meaning "Place of noises" and, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, people have been hearing and feeling rumbles like thunder that are produced by shifts deep within the Earth for centuries.
4. If you live in Old Lyme and go to no other meeting this year, the Board of Finance's Public Hearing on the Proposed Town Budget for FY 2013/14 tonight is one you don't want to miss. The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Meeting Hall of the Old Lyme Memorial Town Hall, 52 Lyme Street, Old Lyme.
5. Just before the public hearing this evening, the town of Old Lyme will hold a reception celebrating Spirit of the Doughboy’s return to Town Hall. The absence of this large pastel drawing left a void on the wall while the work was being restored. The reception to mark its return to pride of place in the lobby of Old Lyme's Town Hall is open to all and scheduled for 6:30 p.m. tonight. Light refreshments will be served.
