The Daily Five: Important Presentations, A Dedication, More Snow, And Passover Begins

Five things to know for East Lyme, Old Lyme, and Lyme on Monday, March 25, 2013.

1. I keep seeing signs of spring yet the forecast is once again calling for snow. Weather.com is predicting a 40 percent of rain showers mixing with snow tonight, then an 80 percent chance for snow tonight. The high temperature is expected to peak at 43 degrees and drop to 32 degrees overnight. Total snow accumulation shouldn't amount to more than an inch, but I'll let you know if anything is canceled.

2. The Town of Old Lyme is trying to find a way to treat wastewater that avoids sewers. With that in mind, the town has scheduled two public presentations on its proposed Wastewater Management Feasibility Study.
The first is scheduled for tonight at Old Lyme Memorial Town Hall at 7:30 p.m.

If the snow this evening keeps you at home, you'll have a second opportunity to hear about this plan on Saturday, March 30, at 11 a.m. There will be a brief history and overview of the project and a chance to ask questions.

3. The Town of Lyme has published its annual report for 2012, which you can view online here. It's worth a look even if you're not from Lyme, just because the artwork used to illustrate it is so lovely.

This year's Town Report is dedicated to Ruth Young and her grandchildren Cathleen and Patrick. Following the untimely death of Ruth's son Philip, the family decided to donate 82 acres of land it owned on Gungy and Beaverbrook Roads to the town to be preserved as open space in Philip's name. Additionally, two acres of land will be used will be set aside as building lots for the town's affordable housing program.

"This incredibly generous gesture, when coupled with the Lyme Land Conservation Trust’s recent acquisition of an adjacent 46 acre parcel, creates an impressive greenway running from the Beebe Preserve on the south side of Beaverbrook Road through Hartman Park to the Salem town line," the Report's dedication reads.

"The Board of Selectmen extends its thanks on behalf of the town to Ruth, Cathleen and Patrick for their vision and selfless commitment to our collective mission topreserve Lyme’s heritage and rural character for generations to come."

4. East Lyme Board of Finance will hold a special meeting tonight at 6:30 p.m. at East Lyme Town Hall to review the , which are making requests for new equipment as part of the town's capital plan.

5. Passover begins tonight at sunset. You'll find a list of Seders and services at local temples and synagogues posted on patch at noon today.
