The Daily Five: LOL Principal Receives "Patriot Award," Recovering Stolen Jewelry, Boat Mix-Up, And Flowers for Mom
Five things to know for East Lyme, Old Lyme, and Lyme on Friday, May 10, 2013.

1. Yesterday's fog should have cleared out by this morning to bring us a mostly sunny day with a high temperature of 72 degrees, according to Weather.com. There's a 40 percent chance of showers later tonight, when temperatures drop to about 56 degrees.
2. Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School Principal Chris Pomroy was honored yesterday with a Patriot Award, which is presented to employers who have shown outstanding support for employees who serve as reservists or in the National Guard.
"My unit was activated on very short notice for storm-related activities and Chris was very supportive of the process (which very often has unclear deadlines/time you will be released). Because of this I was able to take care of my family and concentrate on my assigned duties without concern about my job. Not everyone’s employer is as understanding," writes LOL Middle School Library Media Specialist Robert Hibson, who nominated Pomroy for the award.
3. Last month, State Police Troop-C recovered a large amount of jewelry that was found in the wood line off of I-84. Although it's a little far afield, given the number of burglaries we've had, it seemed worth a mention. The loose jewelry was found in several identifiable containers and included numerous gold necklaces, rings and bracelets that appear to be of substantial value. Anyone who had similar items stolen and can provide proof along with identifying the items should contact Troop C in Tolland at (860) 896-3222, ext. 8040.
4. Recently, I picked up an article from the Waterford Patch about Steve Harrington, who bought the Niantic Bay Boat Valet for a cool $2 million because "he was bored." The original article stated that Harrington had purchased both Niantic Bay Boat Valet and Outboard Exchange.
Well, the Outboard Exchange got in touch to let me know that, though their company is in close proximity to Niantic Bay Boat Valet and enjoys a good working relationship with Harrington, it is a separate company that continues to be owned and operated by Tim Hogan.
Outboard Exchange, which is located at 364 Rope Ferry Road, was initially founded as an outboard motor remanufacturing operation some 20 years ago, and currently has plans to shift back into the remanufacturing business as a whole. The article has been corrected.
5. Flowers are the traditional Mother's Day gift but if you want to make it a gift that keeps on giving, East Lyme Garden Club will be holding a plant sale at East Lyme Town Hall on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Happy Mother's Day!
