The Daily Five: President Visits Connecticut, Lyme Town Campus Moves Forward, and Anyone For Pizza?

Five things to know for East Lyme, Old Lyme, and Lyme on Monday, April 8, 2013.

1. It's beginning to feel more like spring. Today will be mostly sunny with a high of 64, according to weather.com. There's a 40 percent chance of showers tonight when temperatures are expected to drop to 48 degrees.

2. Lyme Planning and Zoning Commission meets tonight at 7:30 p.m. to continue the public hearing that began at last month's meeting on the Lyme Town Campus, a project that will renovate the existing town hall and build a brand new library. The Commission is being asked to approve a special permit and site plan review for the project.

According to the minutes from the last meeting, the entrance to the property will be a single driveway; the town hall will have 17 parking spaces and the library will have 27 parking spaces. A lighting consultant has reviewed the proposed lighting on the complex. There will be down lighting in the parking areas; lighting will be on timers during hours of operation. The existing septic will be removed and a new septic system will be installed for the town hall and the library. The existing memorial area will be relocated on the property, across from the entrance.

3. Lyme Planning and Zoning will also consider an application for a special permit by Lisa Bakoledis to allow sales from an outdoor pizza truck on selected days on the property of Hadlyme Country Store. That issue is also on tonight's agenda.

4. East Lyme's Board of Finance finished its review of the town and Board of Education's proposed budget last week. This week it begins deliberations on the budget. You can find all the budgets for every department online.

5. President Barack Obama is coming to the University of Hartford today to speak about gun control on the heels of Connecticut's passage of new gun control laws. The President, who is expected to speak at about 5:15 p.m., will likely be joined on campus at the Chase Family Arena by families of the victims of the Sandy Hook School massacre.
