White Elephant Sale Collection Starts Today

First Congregational Church of Old Lyme is accepting donations now for this year's annual White Elephant sale, which will be held July 12-13.

The First Congregational Church of Old Lyme's annual White Elephant sale is billed as the largest of its kind in Connecticut, possibly all of New England—and if you've been there, you wouldn't doubt that.

So where do they get all that stuff? From you, that's where!

Each year, it takes about 200 volunteers to sort through and organize all the donated goods to ready them for the sale. Items range from hand-made quilts to kayaks—and the intake started today, June 27.

This evening, you can drop off items at the church at 2 Ferry Road in Old Lyme from 6 to 9 p.m. The collection continues through next Saturday, every day (except for July 4 and Sunday) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with another evening drop-off scheduled for Tuesday, July 2, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Church won't take everything. The items it won't accept include appliances, text books, weapons, stuffed sofas, and car seats. But if you're looking to donate linens, china, glassware, art, computers, even boats and cars, this is the place to do it.

The church will hold its 77th annual White Elephant sale July 12 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday July 13 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. All the proceeds are donated to charity.

You'll find the complete list of which items are accepted and which are not here. For more information, to volunteer to help, or to find out how to donate large items such as furniture or vehicles, please call the church at 860-434-8686.
