Man Charged With Sexual Assault In Connection With Secret Encounters In Tolland: State Police

TOLLAND, CT — A warrant details secret encounters in Tolland between a man in his 20s and an underage girl that led to the man's arrest by state police out of Troop C.

Colton Brown, 26, of Southington, was served a warrant on Friday. He has been charged with the illegal sale or delivery of alcohol to a minor, risk of injury to a child and second-degree sexual assault, state police documents show. He was arraigned that same day in Rockville Superior Court and his initial $100,000 bond was trimmed to $75,000, which he failed to post, according to judicial system records.

Brown is due back in court on Dec. 12, judicial system records show.

According to a warrant, the now-18-year-old girl from Tolland filed a complaint accompanied by a lawyer at the state police Troop C barracks on July 14. She told state police she began conversing with Brown on social media channels in 2022 and began sustained message exchanges on SnapChat with him, while he was using the fake name "Kaden Smith," according to a warrant. She was 15 when they first began conversations, according to a warrant.

"Smith" asked for nude images from the girl and she complied, according to a warrant.

The two began meeting, with the girl sneaking out of the house, according to a warrant. One meeting place was a nature preserve in Tolland, which "Smith" drove her to after picking her up on a local road, according to a warrant.

The meeting became sexual, according to a warrant.

"Smith" subsequently sent his own nudes on chat channels, according to a warrant.

"Smith" repeatedly asked for intercourse as they met and the girl consistently said no, but one time she was caught off guard with him in a sexual position, according to a warrant.

He was eventually identified as Brown, state police said in a warrant.
