Merry C. Garrett of Tolland Endorsed by Democrats for State Senate
Merry C. Garrett was the uncontested unanimous nominee of the Connecticut Democratic Party for the State Senate's 35th District.
On May 14, 2024 before an enthusiastic group of supporters, Merry C. Garrett of Tolland, CT accepted the unanimous nomination of the Connecticut Democratic Party for the 35th State Senate District.
The 35th Senate District includes 13 towns in Northeastern Connecticut (a.k.a. The Quiet Corner). The towns are Ashford, Chaplin, Coventry, Eastford, Ellington, Hampton, Stafford, Thompson, Tolland, Union, Vernon, Willington and Woodstock.
The convention was held at Sun Valley Resort in Stafford, hosted by the Stafford Democratic Town
Committee. Stafford DTC Chairperson Dr. David Mordasky chaired the convention and Tolland DTC Chairperson Cris Jimenez presided as secretary.
Merry gave an emotion touching speech, speaking of her Grandmother Daisy's life in Montgomery, AL during the Civil Rights movement, as well as her family's careers with labor unions, law enforcement and military service.

She also emphasized the need for more state funding to help Northeastern towns balance their strained budgets without more school cuts or mill rate increases. She spoke of her support of women's right to choose, the importance of full service regional hospitals, taking care of our military Veterans and Senior Citizens. Merry also discussed embracing all residents regardless of political party affiliations and working together to preserve our for democracy and the greater good among other topics.
When asked about her history making campaign Merry said; "The only history I am interested in is ensuring every town in my district is finally fully represented at the capital, properly funded to ensure there are resources needed to stabilize mill rates, support local education, improve infrastructure and other needs. We need a Senator that really wants to work, not just be present for promotional photographs for the work others have done. The Quiet Corner can no longer be an afterthought. We deserve better - we can do better."

Merry has worked and lived in Connecticut her entire life. She's a retired Director of Regulatory
Insurance Technology and a retired Vernon small business owner. Merry lives in Tolland with her husband Albert. They have a daughter Ms. Daisy Garrett.
