TOLLAND, CT — A deer and a phone were blamed for crashes that took place in Tolland last week, state police said.

At 5:21 p.m. on March 13, a 2019 Honda Civic was headed east on Interstate 84 near Exit 68, state police said. The driver, a 28-year-old New Jersey woman, told state police she reached "down" for her phone and lost control of the car, which then hit a concrete barrier and overturned, according to an accident report. She escaped with a minor injury, state police said.

According to an accident report, at 9:17 p.m. on March 12, a 2020 Volvo Xc40 was headed west on Baxter Street and crashed into a utility pole. The driver, a 51-year-old Tolland man, said a deer had run out on front of him and he was trying to avoid it, according to an accident report. Neither he nor his 14-year-old passenger was seriously hurt, according to an accident report.
