TOLLAND, CT — At least two artifacts certainly fitting for the Fourth of July — and heading into the nation's 25th birthday — are being displayed by the Tolland Historical Society.

It's a naval uniform hat and military uniform buttons.

For at least 85 years, the hat was stored in Tolland's Old Weigold House on Weigold Road. According to the curator of the museum at the United States Naval Academy, it could be am American Naval cover worn by a commander, or even some ranks below, local historians tell us.

The hat was placed before 1830, but could have been worn during the American Revolution or the War of 1812, according to local historians.

The hat was donated to the Tolland Historical Society by "Mr. and Mrs. Harold Weigold."
