The severe thunderstorm watch was set to expire originally at 8 o'clock Wednesday night.

TOLLAND, CT —The National Weather Service has canceled a severe thunderstorm watch for Tolland County. The watch was set to expire at 8 p.m.

Counties included in that severe thunderstorm watch were:

  • Fairfield
  • New Haven
  • Windham
  • Hartford
  • New London
  • Tolland

The forecast for Wednesday calls for likely showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 5 p.m. this evening. There is also a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9 o'clock tonight. Tomorrow calls for sunny skies.

This type of weather alert is issued by the National Weather Service when conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. A severe thunderstorm by definition is a thunderstorm that produces one inch hail or larger in diameter and/or winds equal or exceed 58 miles an hour, according to Weather.gov.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 78. Light and variable wind becoming west around 5 mph in the afternoon.
