TOLLAND, CT — State police have released preliminary details of a serious car versus dirt bike accident that took place Tuesday afternoon in Tolland.

The crash left the 14-year-old dirt bike rider from Tolland being airlifted to Connecticut Children's Medical Center with serious injuries and the 78-year-old driver of the car from Coventry being transported by ambulance to Windham Hospital with suspected minor injuries, according to a crash report.

According to a crash report, at 2:18 p.m., a 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer with the 78-year-old woman driving was headed south on Goose lane and was approaching the intersection of Anderson Road. The woman continued through the intersection, which does not have a stop sign in the southbound lane, according to a crash report.

The dirt bike with the 14-year-old boy aboard was headed north and failed to stop at a stop sign on its end, and the vehicles collided, according to a crash report.

Both the dirt bike and the sedan were taken from the scene, state police said.

State police are still investigating the crash.
