TOLLAND, CT — A fast-moving clipper system left snow-removal crews scrambling to keep up with the roads in Tolland and schools were eventually closed for the day Thursday.

Schools were closed throughout north Central Connecticut.

Several tree fell on top of wires, Tolland Town Manager Brian Foley said.

"It was a challenging clipper. At 4 and 5 a.m., it was so heavy, the trucks couldn't keep up," Foley said. "The temperature of the roads also caused moisture to form under the snow and made things vert, very hazardous."

Trucks were out as early as 9 p.m., Foley said.

The storm knocked out power to nearly 12 percent of the town, according to the Eversource Energy Outage Map. As of 9 a.m., a total of 746 customers were without power, according to the map.

Eversource crews were out in force, Foley said, and power was restored in 100 homes by 9:30 a.m. A 10, the outage count was down to 574.

At 6:15 p.m., the outage map showed "fewer than 4" home without power in Tolland.
