Thunderstorms, Heavy Rain Leads To Flood Watch In Northern Connecticut
The National Weather Service has issued a new advisory for Hartford/Tolland/Windham counties on the 4th of July.
HARTFORD/TOLLAND COUNTY, CT — The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Hartford/Tolland/Windham counties until late Tuesday night.
"Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible," the weather service said. "Through late Tuesday night. There may be multiple periods of showers and thunderstorms. We expect one round tonight, mainly across northern RI, northern CT and central MA. Another round of showers and storms are expected tomorrow late morning to mid afternoon across most of Southern New England."
"Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas," the weather service added.

"Two to up to four inches of rain fell yesterday. Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are anticipated through July 4th, which may produce additional rain amounts between
one and up to three inches of rain," the weather service added. "Slow moving and re-developing downpours may elevate the risk for urban and street flooding along with localized areas of rapid-onset flash flooding. Excessive runoff will also result in rises on streams, creeks and tributaries to potentially over bankfull."

This Afternoon: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds, heavy rain, and frequent lightning. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 87. Light north wind. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Tonight: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 1am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1am. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds, heavy rain, and frequent lightning. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
Independence Day: A chance of showers, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 11am. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds, heavy rain, and frequent lightning. High near 85. Light and variable wind becoming northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
Tuesday Night: Showers and thunderstorms before 8pm, then a slight chance of showers between 8pm and 11pm. Low around 69. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 90. North wind 3 to 6 mph.
Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 91. South wind 3 to 8 mph.
Friday: A chance of showers after 3pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 89. South wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
