Tolland Mourning Loss Of Iconic Fire Department Member
A popular firefighter in Tolland with three decades of service has died.

TOLLAND, CT — Tolland on Friday was mourning the loss of an iconic member of the local fire department.
Tolland Fire Department officials announced the passing of Distinguished Service Member Joseph "Super Joe" Racicot.
He was 89.

Racicot began his service in 1974 with the Tolland Volunteer Ambulance Association. In addition to being an EMT, he would eventually go on to serve as the organization's president.
After the TVAA consolidated with TFD in 1988, he continued his leadership by serving on the board of directors for many years.

Racicot received a volunteer service award from the Secretary of State in 2003.
Outside the department, he was a pharmacist at the University of Connecticut.
After 30 years of service to Tolland, Racicot retired in 2004. His legacy has lived on through his son and daughter-in-law, both who have served The TFD for many years.
