Bridgeport Police Sgt. Arrested in Georgia-CT Custody Battle

Sgt. Johnny Devone was arrested by Connecticut State Police recently after state police reunited his grandson with his birth mother in Marietta, Ga.

A veteran Bridgeport sergeant is in custody as a result of a custody battle spanning from Marietta, Ga., to Fairfield County.

Johnny Devone, 63, of Bridgeport, became the second family member to be arrested in the dispute. Devone's son is charged with custodial interference and also faces charges in Georgia.

After turning himself in at Troop I in Bethany March 25, he was charged with interfering with police and second-degree custodial interference.

The case centers around the 2-year-old son of Brittany Finley, of Marietta. A Georgia judge ordered the boy returned to his mother and she charges that Bridgeport police, including Devone, stonewalled efforts to recover him.

Those complaints are pending.

The sergeant is free on a written promise to appear in court on April 4.

Meanwhile, Devone's lawyer is arguing in a federal lawsuit that Finley lied to the judge to get the court order and actually "abandoned" the boy in Bridgeport, according to the Connecticut Post newspaper.
