Burglars Striking Long Hill, Canoe Brook Lake, Tashua

Police are stepping up patrols, First Selectman Tim Herbst said Jan. 25. Police would not release further details of the burglaries because they are under investigation.

Since Jan. 1, burglars have struck 8 times, primarily on the west side of Town, stretching throughout the Long Hill section and into parts of Tashua, First Selectman Tim Herbst said Friday evening.

"A short time ago, I conferred with Police Chief Thomas Kiely to review our action plan. Trumbull police will be aggressively stepping up patrols throughout Town, including main roads and residential neighborhoods. Police will be in marked and unmarked vehicles," Herbst said in a statement on the town Website Friday night.

"I am asking the people of Trumbull for assistance in helping us prevent burglaries," he added.

Herbst asked specifically:

  • If you see a suspicious vehicle or suspicious activity at the home of a neighbor or anywhere in your neighborhood, you should call 9-1-1- immediately and alert police.
  • Within your own home, you should take necessary security precautions. You should lock all windows and doors and also safely guard and secure valuables in your home.
  • If your car is parked outside, you should make sure you lock your car at all times. When you leave your home, if you have an alarm system, you should turn it on at all times.
  • If you have any tips regarding any burglaries, you can contact our Detective Bureau at (203) 261-3665 or text us at CRIMESTRPD and include your message. All calls and texts will be kept confidential.
