From Trumbull Health Department: National Public Health Week is celebrated the week of April 3 - 9, 2017. The American Public Health Association (APHA) sets aside this week each year to bring together communities to recognize the contributions of public health and to raise awareness of the important role that public health and prevention play in keeping communities healthy. This year’s theme is “Healthiest Nation 2030.” Come celebrate with the Trumbull Health Department by participating in:

  • National Walking Day, Wednesday, April 5, 2017 - Join the Trumbull Health Department Staff and First Selectman, Timothy Herbst, for a short afternoon walk. Residents, employees, and business owners are encouraged to meet at 12:00 p.m., at the Town Hall (on the green), 5866 Main Street, Trumbull. The walk will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. No registration is necessary.
  • Know Your Numbers, Thursday, April 6, 2017 – Visit the Trumbull Health Department for a free health screening. Screenings include blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, body mass index (BMI), and waist circumference. Screenings will be offered from 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., at the Trumbull Health Department, 335 White Plains Road. No appointment is necessary.

“We hope residents will be able to take advantage of these opportunities and celebrate with us,” said Rhonda Capuano, Director of Health at the Trumbull Health Department. “The Trumbull Health Department believes that only by working together will we be able to achieve the goal of Healthiest Nation 2030. It takes all of us to do our part to reduce the incidence of disease, to decrease mortality from chronic diseases, and to improve our quality of life. We can begin now by making simple positive lifestyle modifications.”

The American Public Health Association states, “Change can only happen if we make healthy choices as a society. This means improving everything that impacts health – from housing, education and income to community design, transportation and our environment. Together, we can all be the generation that changes the course of health in America.”
