Charlotte A. Essex was taken home by her Lord on May 15, 2025

Charlotte made her home in Milford, Connecticut in the early 1970s — a place she would call home for the remainder of her life.

Charlotte A. Essex, 82, of Milford, CT, was taken home by her Lord on May 15, 2025 while surrounded by all of her immediate family members. Born on August 14, 1942 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Alice Anderson and sister to a younger brother, the late John David Carl Anderson.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, Charlotte lived a life grounded in faith, service, and community. She grew up surrounded by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who kept her connected to her family’s Swedish roots. She graduated from Fort Hamilton High School and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in education from SUNY Oswego. Her early career as a second-grade teacher in Long Island reflected her deep love for children and education.

She later settled in Middle Village, Queens, before making her home in Milford, Connecticut in the early 1970s — a place she would call home for the remainder of her life.

Throughout her career, she was a dedicated public servant, working first at Lennox Avenue School, then the Milford Public Library, and later for the City of Milford where she served many years as an administrative assistant to the Personnel Director in Human Resources until her retirement. Her colleagues remember her as warm, organized, and always willing to help.

Faith played a central role in her life. She was a devoted member of Vertical Church in West Haven and remained active in Bible study throughout her years.

A true New Yorker at heart, she was also a lifelong Mets fan — cheering them on through every season with enduring hope and spirit.

Her presence in the lives of those who knew her was a quiet but steady force — full of kindness, wisdom, and grace. She will be dearly missed.

Charlotte is survived by her children, Alison Brennan and Kimberly Essex; her son-in-law Chris Brennan; grandchildren, Joshua, Jordan, and Justin Brennan; her sister-in-law, Carolyn Anderson; her nephew, Stefan Anderson; her nieces, Brielle Raine and Birgitta Anderson; as well as Eric Raine and her great niece, Reagan Raine and many cousins.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 11:30 a.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street, Milford.
