UPDATE: Police said Main Street remains closed near Middlebrooks Avenue due to utility work. A traffic detour is in place. The utility company has advised that repairs are expected to be completed by 11:00 PM tonight.


TRUMBULL, CT — A car struck a utility pole in Trumbull on Friday morning, according to the Long Hill Volunteer Fire Co. #1 Inc.

Fire officials wrote in a Facebook post that they responded to Main Street at Middlebrooks Avenue on a report of a car striking a pole.

The accident caused significant damage to the pole as well as a fire in the road.

Firefighters secured the area and waited for UI to shut off the power. Then they extinguished the blaze.

Main Street is closed to all traffic at Middlebrooks Avenue due to the accident and will remain so for "an undetermined amount of time," fire officials said.

Middlebrooks Avenue is also closed at Church Hill Road, according to police.

Detours are in place. Drivers should expect delays and use alternate routes.
