TRUMBULL, CT — A Bridgeport teen accused of robbing another teen in Trumbull at gunpoint and stealing their dirt bike on New Year's Eve was arrested later that evening, according to police.

In a news release, Police Lt. Brian Weir said officers were called to the area of the "Rails to Trails" between White Plains Road and Quarry Road after receiving a report of a robbery at gunpoint Tuesday around 5 p.m.

Arriving officers met with a 14-year-old who told officers he was riding his dirt bike on the "Rails to Trails" near the pump station when another group on dirt bikes approached him, Weir said.

One of the men in that group, Giovanni DeJesus, 19, of Bridgeport, approached the 14-year-old and pointed a handgun at him while ordering him to get off the bike. DeJesus then took the teen's dirt bike and fled south into Bridgeport, according to Weir.

After nearby police departments were alerted, officers in Bridgeport quickly spotted DeJesus and arrested him on Palisade Avenue. They also recovered a Glock handgun, according to Weir.

DeJesus and the gun were both positively identified as being involved in the robbery, Weir said. No injuries were reported.

The stolen dirt bike was later found in the basement of DeJesus' home in Bridgeport and returned to its owner, Weir said.

According to Weir, DeJesus is a convicted felon with a history of serious weapon-related offenses and is listed on the state's deadly weapon offender registry. He had just been released from prison a few days before the incident.

Weir also noted the handgun is a Glock model 19, 9mm, that is fitted with a "switch" device on the slide, making the weapon fully automatic. The gun also had a 30-round extended magazine and dozens of rounds of 9mm ammunition, which were also recovered.

The origin of the weapon is still under investigation, Weir said.

DeJesus was charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree larceny, illegal possession of an assault weapon, criminal possession of a pistol, illegal possession of a large capacity magazine, carrying a pistol without a permit and criminal possession of ammunition.

He was held on a $300,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court later this month, according to Weir.
