Early Morning Basement Fire Breaks Out In Trumbull: Nichols FD

An early morning basement fire was reported in Trumbull shortly after a two-car crash on Route 8, according to Nichols fire officials.

TURMBULL, CT — An early morning basement fire was reported in Trumbull shortly after a two-car crash on Route 8, according to the Nichols Fire Department.

In a news release posted to Facebook, Nichols fire officials said the two-car crash was reported around 12:30 a.m., and firefighters remained in the area for 45 minutes to assist emergency medical service crews.

Nichols, Trumbull Center and Long Hill fire crews were then called to the 2900 block of Nichols Avenue around 2:30 a.m. after receiving a report of a basement fire, officials said.

Crews quickly entered the building and extinguished the blaze, according to fire officials.

No injuries were reported, and the occupants of the building were alerted to the fire by a working smoke detector at the top of the basement stairs, fire officials said.

Trumbull police and Bridgeport American Medical Response, in addition to Trumbull Center and Long Hill crews, provided mutual aid.

The fire marshal's office is investigating the cause of the fire, officials said.
