Police Lt. Brian Weir said the 15-year-old teen was riding an electric bike south on Main Street near Whitney Avenue around 6:45 p.m. Thursday, when the bike was struck by a car traveling in the northbound lane.
The collision caused serious injuries to the teen, Weir said. The driver of the car was the only occupant of the vehicle and was not injured. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, according to Weir.
No charges have been filed at this time, Weir said.
According to Weir, the department received several reports Thursday of a bike struck by a vehicle on Main Street near Whitney Avenue.
The vehicle was heavily damaged and came to rest in the roadway, and the bicyclist was seriously injured, Weir said in an earlier release.
The bicyclist received medical aid from police officers and emergency medical service crews and was taken to an area hospital, Weir said.
Trumbull, Fairfield and Westport police are investigating the incident. The cause of the crash has not been determined yet, according to Weir.
