The Sisterhood of Congregation B’nai Torah, 5700 Main Street, Trumbull. will host a Women's Purim Festival, Vashti's Feast on Sunday, Feb. 17 starting at 4 pm. The event will highlight a Middle Eastern experience with exotic foods, dancing, storytelling, pampering, shopping bazaar and other exciting entertainment surrounding the story of Queen Vashti.
In the first chapter of the Purim story, Queen Vashti hosts a banquet for women in the royal palace. King Ahasuerus has other ideas and dispatches his men to "invite" Vashti to his party. When Vashti refuses she is banished from the kingdom.
Recently, Jewish women have been seeking new and imaginative ways to create personally meaningful experiences. The dictates of Purim encourage us to celebrate with fun and frivolity. Vashti's Feast will provide a contemporary twist in an atmosphere of joyfulness and triumph. This will be the quintessential women's space - living, celebrating and dancing together. As women, we recover voices from the past and create new celebrations.
Open to all women ages 13 and up, attendees are encouraged to come dressed in caftans, jeweled shirts, harem pants and lots of jewelry. $25 per person, checks payable to B'nai Torah Sisterhood. For more information call
