Fire Breaks Out In Large Commercial Dryer In Trumbull: Nichols Fire

Nichols Fire Department officials said crews extinguished the blaze after an accumulated amount of lint underneath the dryer caught fire.

TRUMBULL, CT — Nichols Fire Department crews extinguished a fire that broke out in a large commercial linen dryer Friday morning in Trumbull, according to fire officials.

In a news release, officials said Nichols fire crews received a report just before 10 a.m. of an appliance fire in a commercial laundry machine at a business on Commerce Drive.

With assistance from Trumbull Center and Long Hill crews, Nichols firefighters investigated a large commercial linen dryer with moderate smoke coming from the center of it, officials said.

After further investigation, crews determined an accumulated amount of lint underneath the dryer had caught fire and employees had used the facility's extinguishers to hold the blaze in check, officials said.

Firefighters secured power to the machine and used water to fully extinguish the fire, officials said.

Nichols officials said the fire appeared to have been started by contractors working near the machine and noted the Trumbull Fire Marshal's Office is currently working with the building's management following the incident.

Crews left the business about an hour after arrival, officials said.
