Former Trumbull Housing Authority Member Back on Board

Thelma Burr resigned earlier this year but was elected to Trumbull Housing Authority March 20.

Thelma Burr is back.

The Stern Village resident won the first tenant position on the Trumbull Housing Authority since First Selectman Tim Herbst replaced its members in late December. Burr had resigned, and now replaces tenant Joy Meehan.

Stern Village is a subsidized public housing complex for seniors and the disabled.

Burr will complete her original term, which ends in December 2013. Another election for the five-year tenant position will be held in November, said Tenant Association Chairman Paul Littlefield.

"The election was conducted and supervised by the League of Women Voters, Jean Rabinow and Goria Fracisconi were on site for the two voting sessions," Littlefield said.

Burr garnered 57 votes. Total votes cast were 99, representing about a 47 percent
turnout. Voting absentee proved popular with about 53 percent of the votes cast, the chairman said.

A post-election party, sponsored and organized by the Stern Village Tenants'
Association, drew approximately 50 people, Littlefield said, adding that three Girl Scouts came to escort tenants to their apartments.

Desserts and coffee were provided by both tenants and friends.

Littlefield started the election process last December when he and resident Dan
Cronin collected more than the required number of signatures to petition an
election.
