Trumbull Cops: One Abduction Attempt in Nichols; Other Rumors 'Incorrect'

Trumbull Police investigated one abduction attempt in Nichols but say rumors of others are "incorrect."

"Several calls have been received by the Trumbull Police from concerned parents who have heard rumors of at least two attempted child abductions recently.  This information is INCORRECT[sic]," said Deputy Police Chief Michael Harry.

"A Nichols resident sent her 9-year-old son to retrieve the mail at the end of their driveway.  It was reported by the youth that a Black Nissan operated by a Black male drove up to the youth and asked him if he wanted to get into the vehicle.  The youth ran back toward his home and the vehicle reportedly drove away," Harry said.

"Officers dispatched to the scene were unable to locate the suspicious vehicle.  Patrol Officers have been advised and will increase patrols on secondary roads," he added.

The father of boy, whose identity is being withheld by Trumbull Patch, confirmed making the report to police.

"I want the parents to be aware," the father said. "You can't even send [children] down to get mail any more." 

Preventing Rumors

"This information is presented to prevent rumors from growing in the number of attempts and intensity of the act," Harry said.  "It is also presented however, to remind all residents to be vigilant to the area around them and to immediately report all suspicious activity, vehicles, and persons to the Trumbull Police at 203-261-2665 or call 911." 

The Trumbull Police, in partnership with the community, respond to all complaints, according to Harry.
