Obituary: John Kost, 95, Of Trumbull

Employed at Sikorsky for over 40 years, he was proud of the decades he spent designing and upgrading Sikorsky's Black Hawk helicopter.

John Kost of Trumbull, was born in Dumore, PA in 1928 to Slovak immigrants. He served as a Signal Corps Operator during the Korean Conflict and attended the University of Scranton. He married Betty in 1960, and moved to CT, where he worked as a design engineer at the vanguard of various technologies, including the cherrypicker lift and the helicopter.

Employed at Sikorsky for over 40 years, he was proud of the decades he dedicated to designing and continually upgrading Sikorsky's Black Hawk helicopter, the army's primary helicopter for tactical transport and medical evacuation, as well as other models, including the MS 60S Seahawk.

Golf was his lifelong hobby. He was a member of various golf clubs and achieved two holes-in-one. His carefully manicured lawn and well-maintained home were his pride and joy, and he spent countless hours attending to them. He was a member of Saint Theresa Church.

He was predeceased by his wife, Betty and all five of his siblings Anne, Mary, George, Agnes, and Elizabeth.

Survivors include two daughters, Brenda (Michael) Zepf and Carolyn Kost (Frank Don), and two grandsons, Zachary (Lindsay) and Nicholas Zepf, a great-granddaughter, Layla, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held directly at Saint Theresa Church, 5301 Main St. Trumbull, CT on Monday, May 20, 2024 at 9 a.m. Entombment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull, CT.
