Proposal Would Pave Way For Trumbull Mall 'Transformation'
The Planning and Zoning Commission took action on a proposed change that would allow for the Trumbull Mall to become a "mixed-use hub."
TRUMBULL, CT — The Planning & Zoning Commission voted unanimously to pass proposed zoning changes for the area of the Trumbull mall.
First Selectman Vicki Tesoro said the changes are intended to pave the way for the mall to become a "true mixed-use hub" where people "can live, work, and play."
Earlier this summer, Centennial took over property management of the mall. At the time, Tesoro said there was "a great deal that needs attention at the Trumbull Mall" but added that Centennial was taking step to create a better environment for shoppers and businesses.

I want to thank the Trumbull Planning & Zoning Commission’s unanimous vote at last evening’s meeting in favor of the proposed zoning regulation changes recommended in the Trumbull Mall Area Market Feasibility and Land Use Study. The Trumbull Mall remains one of our town’s top taxpayers, and these changes will help to set the stage to both retain the mall’s current value and foster growth in this critical area.
To attract the right kind of investment, our zoning must be aligned with the transformational vision for the Trumbull Mall area. This is a unique opportunity to create a vibrant destination where people can live, work, and play—a true mixed-use hub that enhances the quality of life for our residents and drives economic vitality.
The potential for over one million square feet of infill development in this area is within our reach. This development could generate approximately $10 million in new revenue for Trumbull, a substantial contribution to our community’s fiscal health. However, realizing this potential required us to lay the proper groundwork through thoughtful, forward-looking zoning regulations.
Last night’s approval by the P&Z Commission of the proposed zoning changes will allow movement toward a dynamic future for the Trumbull Mall area, one that benefits both our residents and our local economy.
I want to thank the P&Z Commission for their consideration and dedication to Trumbull’s continued growth and prosperity.
