'Smash And Grab' Jewelry Theft Reported At Trumbull Mall: Police

TRUMBULL, CT — A "smash and grab" robbery, in which several thousand dollars' worth of jewelry was stolen, was reported Sunday afternoon at the Trumbull Mall, according to police.

In a news release, police said three masked thieves used hammers to smash the glass display case at a Saba Jewelers store inside the mall, then quickly escaped in a dark colored four-door sport utility vehicle waiting near the mall's Main Street exit.

Police said they received several calls reporting the theft around 3 p.m. after shoppers and employees were alarmed by the loud noise of the smashing glass, however no weapons were spotted.

Officers interviewed numerous witnesses and secured the scene for the detectives, who collected evidence and are still investigating as of Monday afternoon, according to police.

The exact value of the stolen merchandise is still being calculated, police said.
