St. Joseph High School Students Taking the Plunge

They will hit the water at Compo Beach in Westport at 1 p.m.

(From a press release) In just a few short hours, over seventy St Joseph High School students will embrace their inner penguin for an icy plunge in the Long Island Sound: all in the name of Special Olympics.

Now in their seventh year of participating, the aptly named COOL CADETS have had hundreds of students support Special Olympics with a bracing March swim. Says Nancy Dennin, St Joseph High School Head of Math and organizer for the Cool Cadets, “our students have raised over $60,000 for Special Olympics in the years that St Joe’s has been making the plunge. But their participation isn’t limited to raising money--they volunteer at many of the Special Olympics competition events throughout the year.”

That said, the bravest event on the slate for March 9 is most definitely this year’s snow laden Penguin Plunge. Join St Joseph High School’s Cool Cadets and countless others on Compo beach for the 1pm plunge. Cheer them on, and show your support for Special Olympics on a very penguin day!
