In what Trumbull High School Coach Phil Pacelli called a "classic pitcher's duel," the varsity baseball team lost the FCIAC championship game 2-1 Sunday night.
The Eagles and the Hatters squared off in Harbor Yard in a game where the final inning proved pivotal.
Going into the the seventh inning Danbury held the lead. Trumbull was able to get two runners on base before the final strike out.
Pacelli called his team's performance "outstanding," but added that "we just came up short." Still, the Eagles held off the Hatters through several innings before Danbury logged the tie-breaking run.
Pacelli also praised Pitcher Gerard Spiegel, a senior. "He's come a long way," he said.
The Eagles were FCIAC champs last year and several years earlier said THS Athletic Director Michael Herbst.
