TRUMBULL, CT — Old Towne Restaurant in Trumbull recently hosted a "Tip-A-Cop" fundraiser event to benefit the Special Olympics with the assistance of the Trumbull Police Department.

In a news release provided by the department, Police Lt. Brian Weir said the event was held April 1, during which Trumbull officers swapped their duty belts for aprons as they waited tables and mingled with patrons at the restaurant for tips to help support the athletes.

Thanks to the contributions and hospitality provided by Old Towne Restaurant and the generosity of customers, the event raised over $1,700, according to Weir.

All money raised went to Special Olympics of Connecticut, a designated charity of law enforcement in the state, Weir said.

According to Weir, the donations help fund efforts for the Special Olympic athletes, from providing gear and transportation to practicing and competing in their sporting events, as well as health and fitness programs for athletes of all ability levels.

The Trumbull Police Department has been a long-time supporter of the Special Olympics of Connecticut and participates in various events, including the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run, which kicks off the local Special Olympics games every year, Weir said.
