Trumbull 2024 Primary Elections: What To Know

Winners of Connecticut's Aug. 13 primary races will advance to become their party's banner bearer in the general election.

TRUMBULL, CT — The main election event is set for November, but there are a couple of preliminary bouts Trumbull residents will weigh in on next month.

Winners of Connecticut's Aug. 13 primary races will advance to become their party's banner bearer in the general election.

In Trumbull, residents who are registered Republicans may vote for one of two candidates to challenge incumbent Democrat Sen. Chris Murphy for a seat in the U.S. Senate. Gerry Smith, the first selectman of Beacon Falls, is running against Manchester native, businessman and Navy veteran Matthew Corey.

In the second race on the ballot, Republicans will choose between physician Michael Goldstein of Greenwich and Fairfield finance executive Bob MacGuffie. Both men seek to challenge incumbent Democrat Rep. Jim Himes to represent Trumbull and Connecticut's 4th District in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Trumbull residents who are registered Democrats may vote for one of the following candidates in the race for state senator in Connecticut's 22nd district: Bridgeport residents Scott Burns and Tyler Mack and Trumbull residents William A. Finch and Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox.

According to the town website, early voting in Trumbull will take place at the Registrars' Office in Town Hall, located at 5866 Main Street, during the following hours:

  • Monday, Aug. 5, 2024 - 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024 - 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2024 - 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Thursday, Aug. 8, 2024 - 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Friday, Aug. 9, 2024 - 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024 - 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Sunday, Aug. 11, 2024 - 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Absentee ballots are available online here.

August 2 is the earliest deadline, and affects unaffiliated voters seeking to vote during the early voting period before the primary — Aug. 5 to Aug. 11 — to file party enrollment application.

August 12 is the deadline for issuing absentee ballots, outside of special exceptions for those overseas or ill.

Polls will be open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Aug. 13.
