Thomas George Cody, 24, of Country Walk, Shelton, is charged with possession with intent to sell, possession of narcotics and sixth-degree larceny.
Police said Cody took Polo cologne from Lord & Taylor and tried to leave through the employee exit. He was also found with waxy folds of heroin, police said.
His bond was set at $5,000 for an appearance in Bridgeport Superior Court.
