A man allegedly stole a camera from Target on Hawley Lane but was nabbed after coming back for the battery.
Elias Goncalves, 23, of Long Hill Avenue, Shelton, is charged with sixth-degree larceny and possession of a shoplifting device.
Police said Goncalves took the camera but left the box and battery behind. He was arrested when he returned to the store, police said. He took a razor from the store to open the box, police added.
He is free on a written promise to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court.
