Trumbull Dem.: Will Herbst Serve Out His Term?

Trumbull First Selectman Timothy M. Herbst nominated Tom Foley for Governor in 2010 after having been named Chair of Foley’s coalition “Elected Officials for Tom,” one of 14 such targeted support groups.

Herbst was involved, if not active, in that year’s Foley campaign, soliciting support, speaking, perhaps raising money for the candidate.

He was also a supporter of Linda McMahon’s two candidacies.

McMahon and Foley recently returned the favor, co-hosting a $100 a ticket fundraiser last August for the First Selectman.

All this begs the question – having played roles in the campaigns of such mentors, where is Herbst focused? And if re-elected in November, will Trumbull hold his full attention through 2015, or might he be eyeing a run for a larger office next year?

When the question was recently put to him, his response was the incomplete “I am committed to doing the job… They said that two years ago and I’m still here.”

Will Herbst give the voters of this community an unequivocal answer, or continue to leave supporters and opponents alike dangling?
