The fifth-seeded Trumbull High School Golden Eagles baseball team is headed for the FCIAC championship game after a nailnbiter semifinal against first-seed Greenwich Wednsday.
After a 1-1 tie held for five innings at the Ball Park at Harbor Yard, Trumbull broke the impasse with a hit from Vinny Ciambriello in the seventh inning that drove a runner home, followed by another run by Jake Levison.
Eagle Jeff Sam got the second out in the last inning with a diving catch, and a high ball toward first base clinched the game, 3-1.
"We knew it was going to be a great battle," said Trumbull Coach Phil Pacelli. "We got a great pitching performance out of Colin [Keyes]."
"We got a big pinch hit from Vinnie," he added, noting that in a game against New Canaan, Ciambriello started a rally that led to five runs.
Trumbull had eight hits and Greenwich four.
It was not clear who won the following game between Danbury and Fairfield Ludlowe, but Pacelli said, "No matter who we play, it's going to be a great team."
The final game is at noon Saturday at Harbor Yard.
