Trumbull Home Depot Evacuated Due To Broken Gas Line: Long Hill FD

Long Hill fire officials said employees temporarily evacuated the hardware store after an odor of gas was reported in the building.

TRUMBULL, CT — A Home Depot store in Trumbull was temporarily evacuated Saturday afternoon after an odor of gas was reported in the building, fire officials said.

According to the Long Hill Volunteer Fire Co. #1 Inc. Facebook page, Long Hill crews were called to the store on Monroe Turnpike after a worker broke a gas line to a heater and was unable to shut off the line.

As employees worked to evacuate the store, crews were able to shut off gas to the building, Long Hill officials said.

A protection line was also stretched into the building to the area of the leak, officials said.

Crews then worked to ventilate the building to safe levels and left the area as building management and a gas company continued to investigate the incident, according to fire officials.
