Trumbull House Delegation Support Studying Entrance Ramp

Reps. Rutigliano, Devlin, McGorty submitted testimony to study the feasibility of constructing an entrance ramp in Trumbull.

From House Republicans: State Rep. David Rutigliano (R-123), Laura Devlin (R-134) and Ben McGorty (R-122) submitted written testimony today to the legislature’s Transportation committee on a proposal to study the feasibility of constructing an entrance ramp in Trumbull.

The legislation, House Bill 6724: An Act Studying the Feasibility of Constructing an Entrance Ramp in Trumbull.

The expressway portion of the Route 25 Corridor was completed in 1982. Part of that project included a planned entry and exit ramps off of Whitney Ave in Trumbull. Land was acquired, easements were granted, but the construction of the ramps never began.

In the years since, the northern and eastern portions of Trumbull have been developed significantly, particularly Daniels Farm Road where Trumbull High School and Daniels Farm Elementary School are. In turn, Daniels Farm Road has become the main entrance for the Route 25 expressway. Trumbull has experienced very heavy traffic on surface streets as a result, given the proximity of this entrance to the main downtown area.

“Many of my constituents supported the original plan believing it to sound and thorough,” said Rep. Rutigliano. “The entrance and exit ramps to Route 25 on Whitney Avenue would alleviate the heavy and dangerous traffic on Daniels Farm Road and Main Street.”

Devlin said, “This feasibility study would be an important tool for the town of Trumbull in dealing with their heavy downtown traffic. As a member of the Transportation committee, I look advancing this proposal out of the committee. The bill has my full support.”

“This measure will allow us to take the first step toward relieving increasing traffic congestion in Trumbull, and finally building this entrance ramp thirty-five years after it was initially planned,” said Rep. McGorty, who serves on the Transportation Committee. “Before that can happen, we must conduct this study, and I strongly support that effort.”
