Trumbull Police Lieutenant Graduates National Academy Program

A Trumbull police lieutenant who has served with the department for 25 years recently graduated from the FBI National Academy.

TRUMBULL, CT — A Trumbull police lieutenant recently graduated from the FBI National Academy, an exclusive training program for police executives in Virginia, according to the department.

In a news release, Police Lt. Brian Falkenstein said Brian Weir was one of the 244 law enforcement officers who graduated from the 293rd session on March 13.

According to Falkenstein, Weir has been a member of the Trumbull Police Department for 25 years and most recently served as the Detective Division commander, as well as the public information officer.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from Southern Connecticut State University and a master’s degree in criminal justice from Sacred Heart University.

Weir is a life-long resident of Trumbull, where he currently resides with his wife and children. He is the second National Academy graduate still serving with the Trumbull Police Department, Falkenstein said.

Internationally know for its academic excellence, the National Academy offers 10 weeks of advanced communication, leadership and fitness training. Participants have proven records within their agencies to attend, according to Falkenstein.

The 293rd session of the National Academy consisted of men and women from 48 states and the District of Columbia. The class included members of law enforcement agencies from 24 countries, 11 military organizations and 4 federal civilian organizations.

A total of 55,941 graduates have completed the FBI National Academy since it began in 1935. The program is offered to only select applicants at the academy located in Virginia and is the facility where the FBI trains its new special agents and intelligence analysts.
