Awan was charged with illegal discharge of a firearm, criminal use of a firearm, illegal carry of a firearm while under the influence of drugs, negligent storage of a firearm, first-degree threatening, first-degree reckless endangerment, first-degree criminal mischief, and second-degree breach of peace.
Police said Tuesday they are still investigating a possible motive for the shooting.
A West Haven woman also faces charges stemming from the incident.
Emma Prates, 23, of 126 Laurel St., West Haven, was charged with violation of a protective order, engaging police in pursuit and reckless driving.
Police said Prates was in a vehicle in the driveway of Awan’s residence, but she left immediately afterward. According to police, Prates was not allowed to have contact with Awan due to an active protective order from a previous domestic dispute.
Investigators determined Awan had fired shots from his residence, “possibly striking near” where Prates’ departing vehicle had been parked in the driveway, according to police. Police said they located other guns which were legally registered, but they seized the firearms as part of their investigation.
After Prates’ departure, police tried to pull her vehicle over, but they said she fled at a high rate of speed. Police found her vehicle at a residence in West Haven and took Prates into custody.
Awan and Prates were arraigned in Superior Court on Monday.
