Trumbull Man Robbed $11K From Bank: Monroe Police

Police have made an arrest in a Sept. 14 armed bank robbery at the People's United Bank on Main Street.

MONROE, CT — A Trumbull man is accused of robbing the People's United Bank on Rte. 25 in Monroe on Sept. 14. Police say Joseph Grosso, 33, conducted the heist with a handgun and stole over $11,000.

Employees told police the suspect ran into the bank just before it closed and demanded cash from the teller. Nobody was hurt, but the suspect appeared to be wearing an arm sling during the heist.

This was the first of two bank robberies with 30 days of each other in town. The Newtown Savings Bank was robbed on Oct. 6. An arrest has yet to be made in that case.

Grosso was charged with robbery, larceny and criminal possession of a pistol/revolver. He was held on $150,000 bond and was transported to Bridgeport Superior Court for arraignment.
