TRUMBULL, CT — Bane, the Trumbull Police Department's K-9, underwent emergency intestinal surgery last week, according to authorities.

The dog, a 3-year-old male German Shepherd, is handled by Officer Greg Lee, and he is expected to recover.

"Bane's surgery was successful, and he is now home recovering with Officer Lee," Trumbull police officials wrote on Facebook (see below). "He is expected to make a full recovery and return to full duty."

The surgery is an unexpected expense that requires the department to deplete a funding account, but it will still not cover all Bane's medical expenses, officials said.

"Bane serves the police department in search and rescue of missing people, suspects that have committed a crime, narcotics detection and community services," officials said.
