Police said the scam often involves fake online banking accounts being opened in victims' names to claim benefits.

TRUMBULL, CT — Police warned residents this week of an increase in unemployment fraud recently reported in Trumbull.

According to a news release posted to Facebook, police said the scam often involves fake online banking accounts being opened in victims' names to claim benefits.

Anyone who suspects their identity was used fraudulently is encouraged to report it to the Connecticut Department of Labor.

"Stay alert and protect your personal information," police wrote on Facebook.
