TRUMBULL, CT — A 19-year-old Trumbull girl recently wowed Simon Cowell and his fellow judges while performing an original song on "America's Got Talent."

During a July 19 episode of the NBC talent competition show, now in its 17th season, singer and guitarist Amanda Mammana introduced herself to a panel of judges that consisted of Cowell, Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and "Modern Family" star Sofia Vergara.

"As you can probably tell," Mammana told the judges, "I have a bit of a speech impediment, and it was definitely something that caused me to shy away and to hide, but I found that I don't stutter when I sing."

For her audition, Mammana performed an original song called "Back to Life," which she noted was about facing hard times and how she wouldn't change those times because they made her who she is. A video of her AGT performance can be viewed on the show's Facebook page.

"But what if I could go back in time and change the way I felt about my life," the song questions, "but then would I still have inside everything that brought me to life?"

The powerful lyrics, combined with Mammana's soulful performance, brought many in the audience to tears as they responded with thunderous applause.

Mandel noted Mammana seemed emotional after seeing the audience's response.

"It's just crazy," Mammana said. "There were times when I was a kid when I was like...I could never do anything like this. I'm not good enough."

This admission prompted the crowd to let Mammana know "you are good enough!" All four judges appeared equally as moved by the Trumbull teen's performance.

"Good enough doesn't explain what we just heard," Mandel said. "It's not only good, it's great, and look how you're moving this audience. I believe you're moving millions of people right now at home."

Vergara told Mammana her performance was so authentic and thanked her for having the courage to follow her heart.

Cowell called her performance "amazing" and noted it was terrifying enough to audition in front of so many people on television without having a speech impediment.

"Your voice is so pure, so beautiful, and also you're a good songwriter," Cowell said. "I think you're an incredible person. I'm so happy you came here."

Mammana then received unanimous "yes" responses from all four of the judges.

"Tonight you eloquently spoke to all of us," Mandel said, "and that's why you are going away with four 'yes's."

As Mammana walked off the stage, still filled with emotions, Cowell offered one additional remark to Vergara.

"You do meet amazing people on this show," Cowell said, "don't you?"
