Union Church will host a free concert by the internationally-acclaimed Christian contemporary pop/rock band “Unspoken” on Sunday, October 1 at 7 p.m. in the beautiful, 600-seat, circa 1890 sanctuary at 3 Elm Street in the historic Rockville section of Vernon. Admission is free and open to the public. A freewill offering will be taken to help with expenses. This event is Unspoken's only Connecticut gig during their 2023 tour.

Unspoken is a band made up of leader Chad Mattson on vocals, Jon Lowry on guitars, keyboards, bass guitar and vocals, and Ariel Munoz on drums.

Mattson grew up in a small town on the Maine coast. He became a drug addict, ending up living in the basement of a drug house with rodents running past his mattress on the floor. “There's so much shame and guilt,” he recalls, “but there was a little voice inside me that said God wasn't finished yet." He moved back home, and his mother found a man to lead a Bible study for Mattson and his friends. Everywhere he went, someone was telling him about Jesus. “The beautiful thing about the Gospel is that wherever you're at in life, that's exactly the place in which God opens His arms to us,” he says.

On a mission trip to the Caribbean, Mattson’s life changed completely. In a 12-by-12 room in the Dominican Republic. he began to open the Bible and change from the inside out supernaturally. He now encourages and inspires souls to seek the Lord through music and testimony.

“The last time Unspoken performed in Vernon,” says organizer Drew Crandall, “was 17 years ago, on the main stage of JesusFest 2006 at the Tolland County Agricultural Center. That's before they really made it big. We’re delighted and thankful to have them back.”

“There’s another tie-in between Unspoken and Union Church,” Crandall says; Union Church operates a long-standing addiction recovery ministry, Become Part of the Solution led by Chris Luginbuhl, which the Lord has used to help to transform many lives. We hope that people with addiction issues come to hear Chad's powerful life story, enjoy the uplifting music, and humbly seek the supernatural recovery and restoration that only God can provide."
