VERNON, CT — Municipal official in Vernon are warning residents about a new scam that is apparently circulating in town via text messages.

The scam was picked up by the Vernon Information Technology Department and the alert was issued Wednesday.

It's includes the Liberty Bank logo and the question, "Did you attempt a purchase a Walmart for $1,263.89? It not, follow (a certain link) to cancel now."

Town officials said, "If you receive a message like the one pictured on your cell phone, it is very likely a scam. Do not click the link," officials said.
