Police Dog Nabs Fleeing Man Hiding Under Deck After Pursuit In Vernon, Manchester

A Manchester man is facing 18 criminal charges after a chase that began in Vernon and ended in his hometown, state police said.

VERNON, CT — A Manchester man was found hiding under a deck by a police dog after a pursuit that began in Vernon and was picked back up again in the Silk City after a gun was discarded, state police said. He is now facing 18 criminal charges, state police said.

According to an incident report, at 10:55 a.m. Friday, a state trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a dark gray Acura TL with a dark tint and bad Massachusetts plate on Baker Road in the area of Reservoir Road, in Vernon.

The vehicle failed to pull over and eluded the traffic stop and was last seen traveling on South Frontage Road, still in Vernon, according to an incident report.

At 12 p.m., troopers located the vehicle in a driveway on Moore Street in Manchester. When they made contact with the driver, he fled on foot and was observed discarding a firearm in a trash can during the foot pursuit, according to an incident report.

A perimeter was quickly established with Manchester police and state police dog Viper also responded to the scene, according to an incident report.

State police said Viper was deployed to the last known area of where the suspect was observed and shortly after, he was located hiding under a deck of a residence on McKee Street and taken into custody without incident.

The gun previously discarded turned out to be a Taurus 9mm G3-C handgun, which was confirmed stolen out of North Carolina, according to an incident report. State police said a 12-round magazine was also located.

The driver was identified as 27-year-old Dylan Michael Scott of Manchester. He has been charged with:

  • Second-degree reckless endangerment
  • Criminal possession of a pistol
  • Carrying a pistol without a permit
  • Stealing a firearm
  • Interfering with police
  • fifth-degree larceny
  • Illegal possession of a large-capacity magazine
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Possession of a hallucinogen with the intent to sell
  • The use of drug paraphernalia
  • Driving with an illegal window tint
  • Driving without a license
  • Engaging police in a pursuit
  • Reckless driving
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Driving without the minimum insurance
  • The improper use of a plate
  • Driving an unregistered vehicle

Scott was held over the weekend on a half-million-dollar bond and was to appear in Rockville Superior Court on Monday.
