Police Arrest Two on Methamphetamine Charges

A large number of chemicals were found in a van parked outside of a Vernon McDonald's.

Two people are under arrest after they were found to be in possession of methamphetamine.

On Thursday at approximately 12:50 p.m., troopers from Troop C in Tolland were dispatched to the area of I-84 westbound exit 67 ramp in an attempt to locate a red Ford Transit van being operated by an “overdue” party.

The van operator, Sheng Clevenger, had not arrived at his destination and was considered missing along with his passenger, a 17 year old juvenile female.

On Thursday at approx. 1 p.m., troopers located the red van parked in the McDonald’s parking lot at 74 Reservoir Rd. in Rockville, off of I-84 exit 67. Troopers approached the van and spoke with the Clevenger and the juvenile female.

Upon further investigation, troopers noticed a large amount of chemicals in the van. Troopers immediately recognized that the chemicals were consistent with the production of methamphetamine, and that the van may be a mobile meth lab.

Troopers immediately evacuated and secured the area and contacted the Connecticut State Police North Central Narcotics Detectives, Vernon Fire Department, DEEP HAZMAT Team, and the DEA. The Vernon Police Department and the East Central Narcotics Team were also on scene.

State Police North Central Narcotics Detectives and Special Agents from the DEA safely disassembled the meth lab and seized numerous items as evidence. All of the hazardous waste and explosive chemicals and materials were seized by the DEEP HAZMAT response team investigators. Also seized was a facsimile handgun.

Troopers took Clevenger and the juvenile female into custody and transported them Troop C for processing. The Department of Children and Families and the juvenile female’s family was contacted regarding the juvenile female.

Clevenger, 24, of Salisbury, NC, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, drug factory, possession of drug paraphernalia, weapons in a motor vehicle, and reckless endangerment.

The juvenile female was charged with possession of methamphetamine, drug factory, possession of drug paraphernalia, weapons in a motor vehicle, and reckless endangerment.

Clevenger was held on a $500,000 bond and the juvenile female was transported to the Hartford Juvenile Detention Center.
